Programmable Logic Controller (PLC for short) is basically a small computer which replaced older automated systems which would use hundreds or thousands of relays, PLC uses simple methods of looking at inputs and depending upon the their state's turn it's output on or off. PLC's are found in many "Real World" applications from machining to packaging. To use them the user usually via software enters a program to achieve the desired results.
